Halloween 2009 Fun!

{I am finally caught up on the Callister's adventures, make sure and scroll down to see all of our fun adventures!}

We had a fun Halloween week. We weren't able to have our annual Halloween Party with my parents because Jaime's kids were sick, so that is the one thing that we missed out on this year. We had a Halloween Party with Carson's parents, we came home with a lot of cake and soda! Olivia was able to get all dressed up for her dance class, she thought it was fun bringing her class treats and receiving treats from her class. Since being on the PTA board I helped plan our school's Harvest Festival. We had a pumpkin walk, games, food, and each class participated in making scarecrows to be auctioned off that night with the teacher being able to use the proceeds they made that night to better their classrooms. It was a crazy week preparing for it, we had a better turn out then we ever could have imagined, but it was wonderful walking out of the school that night knowing it was over!

Marcus made a "S'mores" Pumpkin for the Pumpkin Walk

Alec made a "Spider" Pumpkin for the Pumpkin Walk
I am the head Room Mother for Marcus' class, so I had to come up with what we were going to make for our Scarecrow. I found a costume one day cleaning out the PTA closet and realized how perfect it would be to make a Clown Scarecrow. My dad made a stand that would hold this giant clown costume, my friends husband air brushed an amazing face, and some of the parents sent in some other objects to make our perfect clown. I think the thing that made it so great was the scarf with all of the kids' hand prints. It turned out great. It was a huge relief when I walked out of that classroom knowing it turned out how I thought for weeks in my head that it needed too.

I am a Room Mother in Alec's class and my wonderful friend Jen is the head Room Mother. She put together an amazing Scarecrow, it was perfect! I went in one day to help put the kids' hand prints on the apron. It honestly turned out perfect!

Halloween morning me and the kids went up to my dad's relatives to pick apples and make apple juice. I remember doing it when I was a kid, but I forgot a lot about it. I was a little worried that I shouldn't take Olivia because she would just end up being a mess, and that the boys would get bored to fast, but I was wrong they loved it! Olivia and I lasted about 3 hours and the boys lasted about 5. It was fun watching the process of making apple juice. The boys kept saying over and over, "this is better then buying it at the store!" Olivia really enjoyed picking up the apples and putting them in the basket. Dad if we do it again next year, we will be there to help you!

Olivia really enjoyed playing with the puppies and I think they enjoyed her as well. She would walk around the cage and they would follow her all around!

The exciting part of our evening could have been so much worse, so we are all thanking our lucky stars that it turned out how it did. Right before Carson was heading out taking the kids trick or treating we were lighting our Pumpkins. It was a beautiful evening, but there was a little bit of wind so we were moving the pumpkins back closer to the door so the porch could cover the pumpkins from the wind. Olivia wanted to move Marcus' little painted pumpkin by his lite up pumpkin as she was doing that I started walking towards the van and Carson went into the house. Within a couple of seconds Olivia started crying, "mommy, my strit (skirt) is on fire." I go running towards her because I can see that it was on fire! I was yelling for Carson, blowing on her skirt, and trying to put it out with my hands. By the time Carson got there it was put out. She was crying, but after checking her over we realized she was not hurt. My hands were hurting quite badly, but we were just trying to get her calimed down. Luckily we only had to cut off a few of her tule streamers, realizing how lucky we were that it didn't burn for one more second because it would have touched her skin. We got her calmed down by letting her know she was able to go trick or treating with her good friend Emma. After they left my mom and Molly came over to help get my hand cleaned up and get some burn cream on them. On my left hand I have 1 big blister and a few smaller ones all in the palm of my hand and on the outside of my left hand I have a burn that looks more like I got burnt by the oven or curling iron. On my right hand I got burnt a little worse. It hurt pretty bad, and since then it has been swollen and red around it, but we are just still hoping it doesn't get infected. How blessed we are that was the worst of what happened and that it happened to me and not Olivia. She is quite funny telling people about her stirt that started on fire. After she gets done people look at me like what in the heck is she talking about!

We had a wonderful Halloween. I can't wait to dress up our little man next year! I already know what he is going to be!!!

PS- Marcus or Markus is one of the names Preston really likes for a boy. It was a name he heard a lot in Germany on his mission (hence the German spelling with the "k")...we'll see!

I'm so glad the fire turned out to be just small. It could of been so bad, hope your hands are feeling better!!!

Stop drop and roll! Just teasing, I'm glad that was the worst of it, that tulle is flammable stuff.

I am so stealing your smores pumpkin idea next year. We will have a candy themed porch with candy corn and smores and something else fabulous (please give me more ideas).

Jenny you are too funny! My mom actually asked me if I rolled her in the dirt! Yes we googled the pumpkins, I think that they turned out kind of fun.
