Presidential Fitness Award 2012 {Mile Run}

Presidential Award, the big Mile Run....

I would like to say that our house is very peaceful the morning of the mile run, but for three years now we have a lot of tears and a bad case of nerves going on.  Every year during the school year the boys have passed things off while in PE to help them to get their Presidential Award.  As it gets closer and after qualifying we start practicing for the big mile run that they have to do in a a certain time.  Every year we make sure the boys have it down so they know that they will pass, unfortunately every year Marcus gets a little nervous.  In first and second grade my parents bribed him with money to do it.  There were a few tears, but would come down to it and he would run.  Both years after getting done he would say, "Mom that was easy!"  Well this year I got there a little bit after it had started, but before the boys ran their race.  There I was sitting there watching and I realized that people in Marcus' class was running, but he was no where to be found.  I have to say I felt really bad at first, it made me feel like a failure that I didn't do enough to make him feel confident enough to accomplish something.  When he got home from school he told me that Mrs. B said she would go early one day the next week to let him run when no one is watching.  I realized that he was nervous to fail in front of people, poor kid.  The following Tuesday I had to work so Molly took him over to the track where he ran his mile in perfect time with time to spare!  I was proud of him (no pictures though).  But he has already let me know he will not be doing it this year....

Alec also was able to participate in the mile run.  He was quite excited with not an ounce of fear running through his body.  Here he is in action...

Proud of my Big Al!!
