Alec or Mason....

I remember 4 years ago when Carson graduated from USU I had 6 weeks to go in my pregnancy, we had sold our house and moved in with my parents 2 days before his graduation day and I often wonder what my life was going to be like after those two mild stones in our lives. I don't know that I really realized that four years later I would have 2 more kids, moved 4 more times, or could have this much love for my kids/family that I do have now(and lets be honest FRUSTRATION!)!

(May 2006, just hoping the last six weeks went by fast!)

Fast forward 6 weeks from that big graduating day where I was four days past my due date and wondering in my head if I had made the right choice to opt for the c-section instead of going into labor where later my chances were very high of having a c-section. I didn't really sleep much the night before in fear of the unknown of a c-section and life with two kids (20 1/2 months apart!). Two nights before this big day while sleeping my Marcus woke up crying so hard only letting me console him where at that point I started sobbing wondering how Marcus was going to handle me being at the hospital, a new sibling, and how I could share my love and attention to another child! Now four years later I have enjoyed (and once agian been frustrated a lot) watching my boys become for the most part best of friends. Marcus is very protective of him, he gets nervous if we are outside and he doesn't know where Alec is and he sees a car coming or makes sure that firends are nice to him; and then on the other hand Marcus is the first one to tease him in the morning!

Right before going to the hospital to meet my little guy!

My c-section wasn't scheduled until 2:00 that afternoon, so Carson and I woke up spent some time with Marcus and then we headed off to the hospital knowing that in 3 hours we would have added to our family! As we got all settled into the hospital and I was all hooked up to the ivy and monitors I remember as it was yesterday as each nurse, Doctor, or pretty much anyone who had answers for me I gave them the third degree wondering if I was going to feel them cutting my stomach (honestly after asking the 10 person I still wasn't sure I found the right answer yet)! As they willed me into the OR my nervous where getting worse, but I am sure to some extent it was not just the c-section, but being a mother to two. After getting my spinal and feeling very good the Doctors said, "you better get the dad in here or he is going to miss everything"; so once Carson sat by me I asked him if they had cut me yet and my Doctor started laughing I have a cut you yet... Here is your little guy! There was no crying, she immediately told me he was in quite a bit of stress, he was all tangled in his cord. She then showed him to me and then off they took him to work on him. I remember getting a slight glance at him, he had dark hair that had a little curl to it. Oh, it was true you could love two kids!

A couple of hours later I was out of recovery and Alec had been all cleaned up I was able to hold him and kiss that soft skin. Carson and I had a hard time naming him, I loved the name Alec and Carson loved the name Mason. For a couple of hours we went back and forth, even at one point when we called and told people his name we told people it was Alec Harrison. As Carson and I sat there and said that we were not totally sold on that name, so we decided to put both names together and name him Alec Mason! The next day when my grandma and grandpa Simmons came over I learned that Mason was my great grandma's maiden name, we then felt really good about that choice. I have to say Alec was not the easiest baby (but the poor thing had to live up to Marcus being a baby never making a sound!). When he was about six weeks old we found out he had reflux, by seven months old it got worse, and even today we still think he has a little bit of it. Our Alec Mason is full of life! He is very stubborn which is good and bad. He loves using his imagination and uses it quite often! He loves following his big brother around the house and he loves having Olivia follow him around the house. He has a very contagious laugh, one of those laughs that you would think would give you a headache, but when he gets with his cousins or friends he laughs nearly the whole time! Alec is very lucky to be able to share his birthday with his great Grandma Carlson, President Hinckley, and one of his good little friends Kadynce. My grandma is very lucky to share cakes with what ever passion he has, grandma I hope you enjoy super hero's because that is what you guys get this year!
Alec I can hardly believe that you are four years old! We love you so much, we have such a love for your special little personality and we look forward to seeing what your passions will change to be and what dreams you will make and full fill. We hope you have a wonderful birthday!

The summer he was one this is where we would always find him, in the middle of a dirt pile!

Right after he turned one we had an accident with the bike trailer, he burned his fingers pretty badly. It seemed to be if someone was to get hurt or bump their head it was Alec!

Alec had that quite mischivousness to him (still does)

Brotherly Love.....
