Olivia's Rough Week

{May 19-28, 2009}Olivia is very into wearing headbands around the house. You should see all the crazy ways she wears them!

On Tuesday night right before putting Olivia to bed I noticed she was running a fever. At first I just thought she was probably a little over heated from being outside. Well all through the night she was burning up, nothing was making it go away. Jaime and her kids were going to be coming up on Thursday so I decided I better get her checked out to make sure it wasn't strep throat or something. Well we go to the Doctor and he checks her out and tells me she has Fifths Disease, but they will do some blood work to make sure. Well with Fifths Disease it is extremely contagious and there is nothing you can do except give it time.

On Thursday she only fevered about half the day, so I thought she was on the mend. Friday came and she was back to fevering really high again and would not stop crying. Her coughing had gotten worse and she was becoming very hoarse. I was trying to be so patient, but with all the crying I just didn't know what to do for her. Friday night I took her over to Kid's Care. When we got there her temperature was 103.2, she was not in good shape. After checking her out we were told she had pneumonia! Oh my poor baby, on round 3 of having pneumonia. No wonder she felt like crap. Thankful with pneumonia there is antibiotics that can help them to start to feel better.

I was concerned because she wasn't going to the bathroom a ton and was barley eating anything. At nights for about 3 nights we ended up having her sleep in a pull up so she could drink as much as she could, I think that helped. Although after drinking tons through the night she still woke up dry, so I guess she was pretty dehydrated. Saturday night after being on the antibiotics for a full day the diarrhea started and the poor girl couldn't stop for about 3 days! I felt so bad her poor little bum was just raw.

On Tuesday the first Doctor that we saw called me to see how Olivia was feeling. I told him how I ended up taking her back on Friday and what the result of that visit was. He then proceeded to tell me that her results were back and her levels were quite high. I said what does that mean. He told me that she was one sick little girl having it start out as Fifths Diseases and ending the week with Pneumonia.

We are now just a couple of days past a week of this happening and I think she is feeling pretty much back to normal. She still has a cough and a runny nose, but other then that she is doing well.

I don't even know what that is. Your poor kids always seem to get sick with weird things. At least she didn't get swine flu.

my mom was wondering if beck had fifths disease the other week. (she's paranoid about that) but the when we took him to the doctor they sent us to the hospital and had him tested and they couldn't find anything wrong with him but it sounds very similiar. i'm sure something they passed around in nursery!
